Following a series of pilot UPLIFT takeovers across the Central Area (2019-2022), we co-designed an 18 month programme of creative interventions to realise a collective vision of a more creative, connected and healthier community in the Central Area of Barnsley.
The project is artist driven, collaborative and targeted to work with vulnerable communities who experience barriers to culture and health challenges across three neighbourhoods (Summer Lane and areas in Dodworth and Worsbrough).
An Artist Developer led, alongside key partners, the Central Area Team (Barnsley BMBC), Berneslai Homes, Barnsley Libraries and residents to develop and deliver this work.
With a People Grower role, communities are also be supported to grow their own creative ideas and connections made into Barnsley’s wider cultural scene.
We commissioned 3 creative practitioners, responding to the creative visions of each community, to collaborate on ambitious ideas that are place-making, nurture wellbeing and shift perceptions on what it means to be creative.
