About Creative Recovery

Welcome, thanks for popping by!

Shall we start by telling you a bit about what Creative Recovery is all about? And then if you’d like to introduce yourself you can drop us a line and we can get to know each other!

Creative Recovery is a small grassroots charity which uses creativity to support individuals and families with experience of mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues, as well as those who need a wellbeing-boost.

We also work to develop communities, challenging stigma and nurturing community spirit, with the aim to create a more accepting, inclusive and creative culture for all. We are award-winning, receiving national recognition for innovation, public service and social impact!

Being creative helps us to become unstuck and starts us moving forward again. It sparks curiosity, soothes the mind, broadens horizons and reconnects us with the world. From lowering blood pressure to releasing “feel good” chemicals in the brain, there is strong evidence today that being creative is great for your health!

We put on events, workshops and all sorts of projects which you can come along to, to help you feel good. Take a look at our projects below to see our regular sessions. Our experienced artists use a person-centred approach to create safe spaces and unique projects where individuals can thrive.

Come along if you’d like to:

  • Learn new skills, discover your talents and share them.
  • Take time to reflect, tell your story, see things afresh.
  • Connect with others and make new friends.

You may believe that you’re not artistic, but we believe that we all have creativity within us if we just give it a go. Get in touch if you’d like to take part!

Coming Up

Here’s what’s happening at our gaff and out in the community.

Donate

As a small charity we have felt the pinch of austerity and have struggled over the last few years to keep the doors open.

We have no salaried workers and do everything on a shoe-string. If you’d like to help us to continue with our work in changing peoples lives, please click the image opposite to make a donation.

Work With Us

We’re lucky enough to work in partnership with several health and cultural organisations across Yorkshire, but we are always keen to develop new work and partnerships, particularly in response to issues and needs as they arise.

We love to collaborate with partners that share our values, passion and who aren’t afraid to try something new!

If you’ve got a project you would like to collaborate with us on, or if you’d like us to create something fabulous especially for you, just get in touch!

Meet The Team

Creative Recovery is run by a small, but very lovely team of voluntary staff and trustee board, which is supported by a collective of amazing artists and practitioners with broad and extensive experience of working across arts, culture, health and wellbeing.

If the idea of becoming a volunteer or a trustee floats your boat, do drop us a line – we’d love to hear from you!
